Christian Economics

Christian Economics   by Most Rev. Dr. Robert M. Bowman, Presiding Archbishop, United Catholic Church   It is accepted as a given, at least in these United States, that Christianity and Free-Market Capitalism are inseparable. To those on the right, it is an article of faith. "That government governs best which governs least." "Godless Communism." "In God’s order there are no schemes of wealth distribution which under the government forces productive citizens to give the fruit of their labors to those who are nonproductive." (Pat Robertson in  The New World Order , page 228.) Laissez faire, tax cuts, slash government spending, downsize, balanced budget, welfare reform, tax relief, flat tax, deregulation, capital gains tax cuts, eliminate the income tax, disband the IRS — these make up the economic litany of conservative Christians. Capitalism and family values go hand in hand. Even liberals seldom badmouth capitalism. They just want to make it a li

Gay Adoption: How Much Celebration of Sexuality Are the Kids Privy To?

Many times when I discuss gay marriage, or civil rights in regards to the LGBT crowd, I'm hearing a lot of comparisons to other races of people. In fact there is almost a push from the LGBT community to look at this as though it is racism, and as though gay people are a race of people instead of a group of people who share a preference for a certain type of activity. I do believe that people who identify themselves as LGBT should have the right to marry each other, but there are red flags firing off when that discussion turns towards adoption, and gay parenting. When I ask myself if it's alright for the LGBT to adopt, there is an immediate hesitation, and then a shaking of the head that occurs. Parenting? really? Isn't this something that is uniquely not gay. And by that I mean, the LGBT community is made up of people who chose to live an alternative lifestyle, one where the typical male female intercourse was rejected and instead they decided to go a different rout

The Third Gender & The Fear of Gay Marriage

I've got to say, I don't like it when a woman tells a man what a real man does. But I can appreciate getting into the Bible, so yeah. This is a continuation of the previous blog . Just to be fair, i don't think Christians overtly are trying to turn this gay marriage debate into a "you need to believe in my God, or you don't get to be married" issue - because they are okay with atheists getting married, and hindus, sikhs, jews, any other religion. i know that it's very popular to be pro-gay right now, just like it's popular to be pro-woman (and particularly woman acting in roles that were generally and stereotypically male roles in decades prior). I didn't mean for anyone to get an unfair amount of pressure for stating their beliefs. I think that the LGBT community can be a lot more graceful about the way that they go about trying to get their rights. It's as if they are winning this via a culture war, and they've made it UNCO

The Little Brown Church in the Vale, Chick-fil-A, & Gay Marriage

In an interview with Baptist Press, Cathy said the company was "guilty as charged" in supporting the "biblical definition of the family unit." “We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives,” said Cathy, the son of company founder S. Truett Cathy.    Recently, the issue went even further when Boston's mayor said that he would block Chick-Fil-A from opening in his city.  Boston Mayor Thomas Menino told the Boston Herald he would work to block Chick-fil-A from opening a restaurant in the city. “You can’t have a business in the city of Boston that discriminates against a population,” Menino said. The Little Brown Church in the Vale, Chick-fil-A, & Gay Marriage I went to a wedding in Iowa a couple years ago, and found that the Church was this small chapel with some ZZ Top looking ministers who have been doing weddings since 1864. Over 40,000 visitors come to the Little Brown Church each year,

(REPOST): 34 Rules Every Man & Woman Should Live By

"I’ve had this Living Rules list for over two years now. I think it’s important to learn from your mistakes and the mistakes of others.   So much in the style of Gibbs from NCIS, I decided to document my personal set of rules in order to better follow them." I'll add more later. [ Original Post ]  Image source:  SethSkim.com If I were to go any more in depth, I’d likely have a small self help book on my hands, and I really have too much hair to be writing those. Why 34 Rules? Because The Blue Jays’  Marc Rzepczynski  is the ultimate man. No, but seriously, it’s because I just happen to have found these 34 things to be worth keeping as rules. Remember folks, these rules are designed for myself, but I’d be lying if I didn’t think most of them were a good guideline for how to eliminate stress and work towards your goals, which really is the meaning of life, is it not? 1)  “There’s no crying in baseball”  is my life. There is no crying in baseball , thus there

(REPOST) Atheists Don't Own Reason

When an atheistic perspective is presented with a disdainful: "HOW COULD YOU THINK THAT?" attitude, I'm kind of floored. Didn't they see evidence of Christianity before we got to this point? I mean this can't be their first look at how the Christian Religion evolved over time. And that's what we get, we get looked at like we are people who are so stupid, that we have grasped on to this religion even after it has come and gone. Like a hippy in a Best Buy, looking for the drum circle. Christianity is not dead, and atheists cannot make it so by just saying so. Even more interesting in the atheists utility belt is using counter culture and attempting to win the conversation by making it more cool for their side to exist than the other. Is this something they learned from Sid Meir's Civilizations? One problem with this is that we are in a conversation about religion. And, yes, America likes this idea of a godless man. We like bad-boys and doing thing
