Why Can't She Have A Great Big Manly Heart? A Look at Misogyny, Men, Women, and Society

I'm looking at men and women, at dating, and I'm hearing all these things that women hate about men. Men do this to them, and that to them, and men don't allow women to do this, or that. They try and tell them WHAT THEY SHOULD DO WITH THEIR BODIES, not readily accepting that YES, women in turn tell men WHAT THEY SHOULD DO WITH THEIR BODIES. There is this built up expectation on what it is to be a man, and yet a women is supposed to be able to be anything, anything her little heart desires. And even calling her heart little is demeaning to some, because why can't she have a big heart, a great BIG MANLY heart?

What I wanted to analyse initially was how women reconcile being a woman in Christianity with the different cultural mores and belief systems at play between women's lib and growing up in a society where the laws carry the guns necessary to protect a woman, and the men are seen as almost irrelevant to her protection and success, and a time when the family structure, and the big strong man to guide the family was something that was upheld and kept intact.

But quickly, as you'll see how this darts into different directions it became something more. My research took me into misogyny in religion, men finally coming back and sticking up for men, and of course the feminist rants we are all used to. What I found by sticking with the thought strain was that God made you. God decided if you are a male or a woman. Now some people will interject that they believe that God made them gay, and I would have to direct them to the Bible. God isn't really keen on homosexuality, like today's liberal would like to believe He is. But he's not keen on any type of sin; and there's the rub.

We need to go to God. Our experiences need to connect with the Creator, and they need to be for His glory. Blessings, come and go, and sometimes God will use challenges in our lives to bring us to places we never thought we'd be; or He will stick us in situations where we can be of most use.

Strewn in between some of the videos I've strategically placed here for you to watch, are Bible verses which some women have used as a sort of spring board to attack the Bible, Christianity, and yes, even God as being misogynistic. And one of the questions I have is: Why do women want to be men so badly?

Proverbs 31:10-31

ESV
10  An excellent wife who can find?
She is far more precious than jewels.
11 The heart of her husband trusts in her,
and he will have no lack of gain.
12 She does him good, and not harm,
all the days of her life.
13 She seeks wool and flax,
and works with willing hands.
14 She is like the ships of the merchant;
she brings her food from afar.
15 She rises while it is yet night
and provides food for her household
and portions for her maidens.
16 She considers a field and buys it;
with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.
17 She dresses herself with strength
and makes her arms strong.
18 She perceives that her merchandise is profitable.
Her lamp does not go out at night.
19 She puts her hands to the distaff,
and her hands hold the spindle.
20 She opens her hand to the poor
and reaches out her hands to the needy.
21 She is not afraid of snow for her household,
for all her household are clothed in scarlet.
22 She makes bed coverings for herself;
her clothing is fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is known in the gates
when he sits among the elders of the land.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them;
she delivers sashes to the merchant.
25 Strength and dignity are her clothing,
and she laughs at the time to come.
26 She opens her mouth with wisdom,
and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
27 She looks well to the ways of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children rise up and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “Many women have done excellently,
but you surpass them all.”
30 Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain,
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands,
and let her works praise her in the gates.
Stop Violence Against Women
Stop Violence Against Women
One of the things I hear a lot about from feminist circles, or from atheists who are angry with Christianity is that Christianity is full of misogyny. God hates women, they will tell you, with a full on straight face. The excuses will come rolling out, the "it's not fair!" statements will just start to curl above your head like a giant tidal wave ready to crash down on you. People who readily admit they don't understand the Bible, will then go ahead and try and teach you the Bible, taking it out of context in so many different ways, you can't even keep track. They will try and apply society as we know it today to society in the middle ages, or in the Before Christ (BC) or now often referred to by atheists as Before Common Era (BCE) time periods. And the stink eye will get shot at you if you are a man, or a person of faith, or if you know anything about religion at all and try and correct them.

Leviticus 20:18

ESV
18 If a man lies with a woman during her menstrual period and uncovers her nakedness, he has made naked her fountain, and she has uncovered the fountain of her blood. Both of them shall be cut off from among their people.

Leviticus 12:1-8

ESV
12:1 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the people of Israel, saying, ‘If a woman conceives and bears a male child, then she shall be unclean seven days. As at the time of her menstruation, she shall be unclean. And on the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised. Then she shall continue for thirty-three days in the blood of her purifying. She shall not touch anything holy, nor come into the sanctuary, until the days of her purifying are completed. But if she bears a female child, then she shall be unclean two weeks, as in her menstruation. And she shall continue in the blood of her purifying for sixty-six days.
“‘And when the days of her purifying are completed, whether for a son or for a daughter, she shall bring to the priest at the entrance of the tent of meeting a lamb a year old for a burnt offering, and a pigeon or a turtledove for a sin offering, and he shall offer it before the Lord and make atonement for her. Then she shall be clean from the flow of her blood. This is the law for her who bears a child, either male or female. And if she cannot afford a lamb, then she shall take two turtledoves or two pigeons, one for a burnt offering and the other for a sin offering. And the priest shall make atonement for her, and she shall be clean.’”

Deuteronomy 22:20-21

ESV
20 But if the thing is true, that evidence of virginity was not found in the young woman, 21 then they shall bring out the young woman to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death with stones, because she has done an outrageous thing in Israel by whoring in her father's house. So you shall purge the evil from your midst.

Leviticus 21:9

ESV
And the daughter of any priest, if she profanes herself by whoring, profanes her father; she shall be burned with fire.

Exodus 22:8

ESV
If the thief is not found, the owner of the house shall come near to God to show whether or not he has put his hand to his neighbor's property.

Hosea 13:16

ESV
16  Samaria shall bear her guilt,
because she has rebelled against her God;
they shall fall by the sword;
their little ones shall be dashed in pieces,
and their pregnant women ripped open.

Judges 19:21-30

ESV
21 So he brought him into his house and gave the donkeys feed. And they washed their feet, and ate and drank.
22 As they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, worthless fellows, surrounded the house, beating on the door. And they said to the old man, the master of the house, “Bring out the man who came into your house, that we may know him.” 23 And the man, the master of the house, went out to them and said to them, “No, my brothers, do not act so wickedly; since this man has come into my house, do not do this vile thing.24 Behold, here are my virgin daughter and his concubine. Let me bring them out now. Violate them and do with them what seems good to you, but against this man do not do this outrageous thing.” 25 But the men would not listen to him. So the man seized his concubine and made her go out to them. And they knew her and abused her all night until the morning. And as the dawn began to break, they let her go. 26 And as morning appeared, the woman came and fell down at the door of the man's house where her master was, until it was light.
27 And her master rose up in the morning, and when he opened the doors of the house and went out to go on his way, behold, there was his concubine lying at the door of the house, with her hands on the threshold. 28 He said to her, “Get up, let us be going.” But there was no answer. Then he put her on the donkey, and the man rose up and went away to his home. 29 And when he entered his house, he took a knife, and taking hold of his concubine he divided her, limb by limb, into twelve pieces, and sent her throughout all the territory of Israel. 30 And all who saw it said, “Such a thing has never happened or been seen from the day that the people of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt until this day; consider it, take counsel, and speak.”

Numbers 31:7-35

ESV
They warred against Midian, as the Lord commanded Moses, and killed every male. They killed the kings of Midian with the rest of their slain, Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian. And they also killed Balaam the son of Beor with the sword. And the people of Israel took captive the women of Midian and their little ones, and they took as plunder all their cattle, their flocks, and all their goods. 10 All their cities in the places where they lived, and all their encampments, they burned with fire, 11 and took all the spoil and all the plunder, both of man and of beast. 12 Then they brought the captives and the plunder and the spoil to Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and to the congregation of the people of Israel, at the camp on the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho.
13 Moses and Eleazar the priest and all the chiefs of the congregation went to meet them outside the camp. 14 And Moses was angry with the officers of the army, the commanders of thousands and the commanders of hundreds, who had come from service in the war. 15 Moses said to them, “Have you let all the women live? 16 Behold, these, on Balaam's advice, caused the people of Israel to act treacherously against the Lord in the incident of Peor, and so the plague came among the congregation of the Lord17 Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man by lying with him. 18 But all the young girls who have not known man by lying with him keep alive for yourselves. 19 Encamp outside the camp seven days. Whoever of you has killed any person and whoever has touched any slain, purify yourselves and your captives on the third day and on the seventh day.20 You shall purify every garment, every article of skin, all work of goats' hair, and every article of wood.”
21 Then Eleazar the priest said to the men in the army who had gone to battle: “This is the statute of the law that the Lord has commanded Moses:22 only the gold, the silver, the bronze, the iron, the tin, and the lead,23 everything that can stand the fire, you shall pass through the fire, and it shall be clean. Nevertheless, it shall also be purified with the water for impurity. And whatever cannot stand the fire, you shall pass through the water. 24 You must wash your clothes on the seventh day, and you shall be clean. And afterward you may come into the camp.”
25 The Lord said to Moses, 26 “Take the count of the plunder that was taken, both of man and of beast, you and Eleazar the priest and the heads of the fathers' houses of the congregation, 27 and divide the plunder into two parts between the warriors who went out to battle and all the congregation. 28 And levy for the Lord a tribute from the men of war who went out to battle, one out of five hundred, of the people and of the oxen and of the donkeys and of the flocks. 29 Take it from their half and give it to Eleazar the priest as a contribution to the Lord30 And from the people of Israel's half you shall take one drawn out of every fifty, of the people, of the oxen, of the donkeys, and of the flocks, of all the cattle, and give them to the Levites who keep guard over the tabernacle of the Lord.” 31 And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the Lord commanded Moses.
32 Now the plunder remaining of the spoil that the army took was 675,000 sheep, 33 72,000 cattle, 34 61,000 donkeys, 35 and 32,000 persons in all, women who had not known man by lying with him.
When we talk about misogyny, it is usually in a feminist tirade describing how some institution, structure, group, or course of action does not benefit women. Women aren't usually in the position to give anything up, because they are in the game of acquiring rights, and not losing them. They've been acquiring rights for some time now, and they have been steadily taking rights away from men, through the court system, by creating laws which benefit them, or protect them, and by putting men in jail.

We don't usually talk about the aggression that women display towards men, because every time there is speak of a woman doing something violent, aggressive, or strategically combative towards a man, or institution, the excuses come rolling in. She is defended by her fellow females, because feminism has taught women, that you stick together. That one woman is all women. They defend women because this idea that this could be them, is placed in their heads. They identify. They sympathize. Women have a collective voice, because women back other women. And they've gotten men to back them as well; gay men, metro men, men who want women to like them who have decided women have a better school of thought than men do - it's a pretty lovely gang of people looking to overthrow the patriarchy.

Not Congruent: A Response to FB Red Equal Symbol Marriage Equality Profile Picture Protest

Some good points on redefining marriage. I saw everyone changing their FB picture to the red equal symbol, and so I decided to change mine to the "not congruent" symbol. I used white text in a slate black field.  http://s3.amazonaws.com/thf_media/2013/pdf/bg2775.pdf

Faith: Small As A Mustard Seed

Matthew 17: 16-21 16  And I brought him to your disciples, and they could not heal him."  17  And Jesus answered,  "O faithless and twisted generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him here to me."   18  And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him, and the boy was healed instantly.  19  Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, "Why could we not cast it out?"  20  He said to them,  "Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you."

12 Tribes Means Different Inter-connective Ways To Be Christ-like.

i had a kind of realization today that God works through people. And rather than having monocultures, or having people all act the same, all grasping onto the same way of doing things, the Almighty is at work through many different ways in everyone's life. We have to come to terms with His love in our own time, and in our own way, but there were 12 tribes for a reason, and each disciple was very different in his and her personality, persona and each had a different relationship with Jesus. i think today i realized that we aren't going to fully understand the interconnectivity of it all, until ultimately we get it explained to us in heaven. What can i do with this information? And how much of an epiphany is this anyway. Well, it gives me the power to forgive with an incredible amount of energy because i don't need to figure out what the other person is working on or how God is working within their life. I just need to make sure that I am working with God in my life. I n
