Reza Aslan wrote a book he titled, Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth - A book many Christians including myself feel is blasphemous. Aslan comes off as an intellectual, while criticizing comedian Bill Maher and CNN Hosts, but he misses some pretty easy facts. First off, nobody mentioned the Caliphate (Khalafah) in this back and forth. Sharia law was brought up briefly, but easily ignored with this argument of individuality, political forces which have nothing to do with religion or geographical dissimilarities between religious practices.
What Reza Aslan fails to realize is that many of the countries we are talking about are theocracies, and controlled by an Imam or a religious autocracy. He uses feminism as a way to dissuade the hosts from thinking negatively about Islamic Countries, and he tries to suggest that countries are not Muslim, people are . . . but doesn't concede that people are acting together with their governments and within radical Islamic groups to bring about the new Caliphate. He only states that there are 7 female heads of government as opposed to less in America - which to me is sexist, and seems support some awkward form of female affirmative action. Or, Reza Aslan also tries to take Pakistan out of the Muslim herd by eliminating them as a Muslim country, and requiring us to look at them as just Pakistan. But part of the problem, part of the issue, is that Islam is causing problems in the world. Perhaps not peaceful Muslims, but definitely non peaceful Muslims, which seem to abound in all these countries Aslan doesn't want to call Muslim Countries.
What Reza Aslan does is try and make the hosts of the show feel stupid, by throwing out subterfuge, and un-linking contextual assertions that could be logically attributed to the culture of Islam by way of Sharia law.
What is Sharia Law?
Sharia law is the law of Islam. The Sharia (also spelledShariah or Shari'a) law is cast from the actions and words of Muhammad, which are called "Sunnah," and the Quran, which he authored.
The Sharia law itself cannot be altered, but the interpretation of the Sharia law, called "figh," by imams is given some leeway.
As a legal system, the Sharia law covers a very wide range of topics. While other legal codes deal primarily with public behavior, Sharia law covers public behavior, private behavior and private beliefs. Of all legal systems in the world today, Islam's Sharia law is the most intrusive and strict, especially against women.
According to the Sharia law:
• Theft is punishable by amputation of the right hand (above).
• Criticizing or denying any part of the Quran is punishable by death.
• Criticizing or denying Muhammad is a prophet is punishable by death.
• Criticizing or denying Allah, the moon god of Islam is punishable by death.
• A Muslim who becomes a non-Muslim is punishable by death.
• A non-Muslim who leads a Muslim away from Islam is punishable by death.
• A non-Muslim man who marries a Muslim woman is punishable by death.
• A man can marry an infant girl and consummate the marriage when she is 9 years old.
• Girls' clitoris should be cut (per Muhammad's words in Book 41, Kitab Al-Adab, Hadith 5251).
• A woman can have 1 husband, but a man can have up to 4 wives; Muhammad can have more.
• A man can unilaterally divorce his wife but a woman needs her husband's consent to divorce.
• A man can beat his wife for insubordination.
• Testimonies of four male witnesses are required to prove rape against a woman.
• A woman who has been raped cannot testify in court against her rapist(s).
• A woman's testimony in court, allowed only in property cases, carries half the weight of a man's.
• A female heir inherits half of what a male heir inherits.
• A woman cannot drive a car, as it leads to fitnah (upheaval).
• A woman cannot speak alone to a man who is not her husband or relative.
• Meat to be eaten must come from animals that have been sacrificed to Allah - i.e., be Halal.
• Muslims should engage in Taqiyya and lie to non-Muslims to advance Islam.
• The list goes on.
Where in the world is the Sharia law actually in use?Muslims' aspired Sharia-ruled state is Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Muhammad. It has no legal code other than the Sharia, which is enforced without mercy (see Sharia law in Saudi Arabia). But the Sharia law is also used in full or in part, nationally or regionally in:
• Afghanistan (89%)**
• Algeria
• Austria*
• Bahrain
• Bangladesh (82%)**
• Brunei
• Canada*
• Comoros
• Djibouti (82%)**
• Egypt (74%)**
• Eritrea
• Ethiopia
• France*
• Gambia
• Germany*
• Ghana
• India
• Indonesia (72%)**
• Iran
• Iraq (91%)**
• Jordan (71%)**
• Kenya
• Kuwait
• Libya
• Lebanon
• Malaysia (86%)**
• Maldives
• Mauritania
• Morocco (83%)**
• The Netherlands*
• Nigeria
• Oman
• Pakistan (84%)**
• Palestinian territories (Gaza strip & the West Bank - 89%)**
• Qatar
• Saudi Arabia• Somalia
• Spain*
• Sudan
• Sri Lanka
• Syria
• Tanzania
• Thailand (77%)**
• Uganda
• United Arab Emirates (UAE)
• United Kingdom*
• United States of America*
• Yemen
* In the United States of America, Canada, United Kingdom, and other European countries that resist the penetration of Sharia law, it has proven adept at infiltrating elements of the society that are left vulnerable (see Sharia law in America and the Islamization of America).
** Percent of Muslims who favor making Sharia the official law in their country (source: Pew Forum Research, 2013). In many countries where an official secular legal system exists alongside Sharia, the vast majority of their Muslim citizens favor making Sharia the official law. For example, while the Egyptian military may have blocked the Muslim Brotherhood's efforts in this direction, 74% of Egypt's Muslims still favor it. Even in Jordan, Indonesia and Malaysia - Muslim countries with progressive images - the relatively secular ruling elite sit atop Muslim masses, 71%, 72% and 86% respectively of whom want their countries to be ruled by Sharia. And in Iraq, where the United States shed blood and money for over a decade to try to plant democracy, 91% of its Muslims want to live under Sharia.
The number of countries that adopt (elements of) the Sharia law continues to grow around the world, as does the depth of its penetration in the countries that already use it. This penetration is not by happenstance; it is managed to occur in five phases: see Spread of Islam and how to Stop Islam. - [source: Islamic Sharia Law]

Shia Muslims believe that the Imam is sinless by nature, and that his authority is infallible as it comes directly from God - [source: About Religion]Next let's take a look at the difference between Shia and Sunni Muslims.
One of the things that I think creates a lot more hatred and disrupts the calmness of the airwaves is when Americans try and police the entire world. We see our news globally now, regardless of whether we want to or not. Sex sells, and so does violence and fear - and that is what our media is selling us. We see "the other" and we want to tell them how they ought to act. It's not enough that we have a country of our own, or a religion of our own, which is not running as smoothly as it could be, but we want to take "the highroad" and tell other people how they should act, what they should believe, and what should be important to them.
We are not going to make Muslim countries into America. It's just not going to happen. They have a totally different way of life than we do. And when Muslims come to America, something happens which is similar to what happens to the Amish on Rumspringa . . . they fall in love with the things their religion calls sin. People like to rationalize, and there we go making up a modified version of our religion, until we are forking it like Amazon did with Android.
What Reza Aslan doesn't say is: it's not your country. You don't get to tell them how to govern their citizens. Sovereignty needs to mean something again. If you want to invade and set them free, then you have to admit several things:
- Fighting for Peace is like fucking for virginity
- These wars have span for generations, and will continue for generations to come
- By getting involved, the United States is yoking itself up to a lifetime of the military industrial complex, operating at full capacity.
- Freedom is a slippery slope.
- These people have to want to do this on their own. You can't force them to ditch their entire world for principles that they don't share; or you sir, may turn out to be the oppressor rather than the liberator.
- Blow back is a real thing
- America has it's fair share of heinous deeds.
- America cannot afford another war. We are still paying dearly for the the 9/11 inspired wars in Afghanistan and Iraq dubbed The War on Terror.
- The United States should not be condemning any other country of being warlike while they are the number one country who exports weapons to the world, and while their military budget is more than every other country by more than half. In fact, the U.S. spends more on defense than the next eight countries combined.
- This really is about power more than it is about religion.
I do think that the United States and other countries should take steps to eliminate threats like ISOL, Hesbollah, and the Islamic Caliphate. But, i think a lot of the information that is coming out, or the rationalization for doing so, is suspect and tries to paint the United States as this white knight, when the US is a terrorist state on it's own. What happened to the American Sniper? Why can't we take down a few key targets, and move this to 3rd page news? Has the United States lost the ability to react in a dignified way? Are we so corrupt that we can't even convince descent countries that evil abounds in the name of ISOL? How do we end our own corruption? Shouldn't we work on this country first and foremost?
